Movement Is The Antidote To Low Motivation

Ever felt like you couldn’t be bothered to workout?

I felt like this just the other day.

I was bored, fed up and my motivation was at rock bottom! The LAST thing I wanted to do was workout.

I had to, not because I wanted to but because I had to film a workout for you guys. The first 5-10 minutes were awful. While I was smiling at the camera inside I was screaming… “I WANT TO QUIT!”

Then about 15 minutes in, my mood changed. I felt a proper smile come across my face. The clouds lifted and I actually enjoyed the rest of the workout (well nearly all of it, there were rear foot elevated split squats to do - not sure anyone enjoys those!)

I learnt two lessons from this;

Firstly, movement is the antidote to low motivation. Our bodies are designed to move, and when we give them what they want, they reward us.

Secondly, creating a scenario which forces you to workout - be it a schedule, a training partner, a commitment, a goal (or your job!) is a way to bust through that 10 minute window where your body and mind are screaming at you to stay glued to the sofa.

Now, I don’t always feel like I did the other day but I do feel like it at times - sometimes it’s more common, other times I can go for weeks without experiencing it at all.

But you have to EXPECT it to happen and plan accordingly.

You will struggle at some point. It will be hard.

Luckily, you have the tools to figure it out.

At any point you can reach out to me, or the rest of your coaching support network and ask for our help. We’re here to support you.

Our goal at RESULTS has always been to equip you with the tools and skill sets you need to solve issues like this. While we’ve got your back, you can do this.

We believe in you.

Now, your challenge today is to do something active EVEN IF YOU DON’T WANT TO and keep going until you get the reward of boosted mood from activity.

Remember, movement is the antidote to low motivation.
